Cycles and Sprouts is a community-based agriculture and bicycle repair program in Holden Heights that seeks to improve overall community health and wellness and create on-ramps to economic opportunity.
Cycles and Sprouts is a community-based agriculture and bicycle repair program based in Holden Heights and funded by the AETNA Foundation. The goals of this program are to improve health and wellness outcomes, create on-ramps to economic opportunity and improve community safety for residents of Holden Heights. This will be achieved through the transformation of vacant parcels into productive and socially stabilizing parcels and implementation of urban agriculture and bike repair training to improve life and job skills while encouraging entrepreneurship. Increasing the supply and demand for fresh fruits and vegetables is also a goal of this program. Cycles and Sprouts is a collaborative effort comprised of the following organizations: Kaley Square, East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, Fleet Farming, Playground City, Good Food Central Florida, The University of Florida’s City-Lab Orlando architecture program and the Holden Heights Community Development Corporation.
